No. However, a referral from a medical practitioner is necessary only if:

  • You have been injured at work and your case is being managed by WorkCover
  • Your treatment is covered by Veterans Affairs
  • You are claiming your treatment expenses through a 3rd party claim.
  • You are claiming your treatment through the Ehanced Primary Care Medicare scheme

Yes. If you have private health cover and have “extras” cover, you should be eligible to claim part of your treatment fee. There are many different schemes and you are best advised to check your level of cover with your insurer.

If you are covered, most health funds are online with HICAPS. This is a service we provide for your convenience. It allows you to claim your health fund rebate at our clinic, leaving only the gap to pay. You will need to bring your health fund card with you.

Medicare now offers Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) Programmes to allow a Medicare rebate for up to 5 physiotherapy treatments per year. The programme is for people with chronic conditions, patients must be referred by their GP. If you have any queries regarding this service please don’t hesitate to speak with our admin staff.

Following an initial comprehensive assessment, a full objective examination and hands on assessment with functional testing is performed to establish a diagnosis. You are welcome to ask any questions you may have. Treatment may involve different ways of relieving pain, restoring function, flexibility and strength. Skills and techniques used may include mobilisations of joints and or soft tissues, manipulation, postural correction, electrotherapy, exercises and muscle rehabilitation.

You will also learn techniques to use at home to manage your problem, which may include exercise and preventative measures.

At DV Physio we also liaise with other health professionals involved in your care if applicable and will refer you for alternative treatment if physiotherapy is not the best option.

An initial consultation for one problem will take approximately 25-35 minutes. If you have multiple areas or a complex problem it is best to allow 35-45 minutes (please let our reception staff know this at the time of booking).

A follow-up consultation will take approximately 20-25 minutes.
As a new client we would appreciate if you could arrive 10 minutes prior to your appointment to allow time to fill out patient registration forms.

All private health funds give members the option of physiotherapy cover. If your policy includes physiotherapy cover, please bring your private health insurance Hicaps card to claim your rebate directly from our reception desk.

If you are unsure of your rebate amount, please contact your health fund. Typically it varies from fund to find but its anywhere from 30-90% of the cost of a treatment.

If you have a chronic problem you can qualify for Medicare benefits under the ‘Enhanced Primary Care’ program. Under this program, you can receive approximately $50 per session back from Medicare for 5 visits per calendar year. However, to qualify for these benefits you must obtain a referral from your doctor who needs to complete an EPC care plan. A co-payment is required. The amount of this co-payment varies from $5-$20 as it is dependent on the scope of treatment provided.

Yes, DV Physiotherapy will accept clients with a WorkCover or TAC claim. Please provide reception with all letters from your employer, doctor, insurance, WorkCover and other reports upon your first consultation.

A co-payment fee of $10 per session is payable after each visit.
WorkCover and TAC fee schedules have been severely out of step with the fee structures of quality Victorian Private Practitioners for over 20 years.

The fee schedule of these authorities does not match the costs involved in running a quality practice with the scope of services provided, state of the art technologies and experienced physiotherapists and staff at these significantly lower fees. Therefore to be able to continue to treat clients under Workcover/TAC, it was necessary to implement a ‘co-payment fee’ policy to help bridge the difference between our fee schedule and the amount Workcover/TAC reimbursement.

Yes. A range of physiotherapy services are offered to “Department of Veterans Affairs” clients who hold a “Gold Card”. Please provide your DVA card to reception to record your eligibility details.

Yes. New Comcare patients will need to bring their employer details to their first appointment.

“Comcare” is the Federal Government Workers Compensation program for Federal Government employees and 227 registered self-insured businesses, such as Australia Post, CBA and NAB banks, Telstra and the John Holland Group.
